What is Massage?

Massage is the manipulation of the body to produce physical and psychological effects. It works both in a direct physical way and on a mental/emotional level. It is the ability of the therapist to bring the client into a relaxed state using different types of techniques. Each type of therapy uses a different technique e.g aromatherapy, as this is extremely beneficial for lymphatic drainage.

Physically, body massage can improve circulation, skin tone, texture and aid in the removal of toxins from the body. Mentally and emotionally it can be stimulating, restoring energy levels, relaxing and easing out tension or maybe you just want to pamper yourself.

These therapies are applied to the body using what we call carrier oils or in some rare cases powder. There
are different types of carrier oils which is discussed on the next page. Other types of oils are what we call essential oils which have many properties e.g antiviral, antibacterial etc.
